a violet streetlight
is a newborn literary magazine based in brampton, ontario.
suburbia in shutter vision: doppelgänger houses blur into endless pavement, stoplights into chain store signs, letter nests into the same three birds. but sometimes, in a deep stretch of dim lit night driving down a long line of amber lights, there is a break in the rhythm.
solitary and strange, a violet streetlight.
this magazine seeks to catch that slant of light where familiarity falters, the ordinary malfunctions, where light bends the expected into new forms.
a violet streetlight publishes fiction, poetry, visual art, and everything else you can actualize; works that interrupt, reimagine, and transmute the usual and the predictable. works that rupture the mundane, the repetitive, and that crack open fractures in the everyday in search of that violet glow within the spaces we inhabit and ourselves.
above all else, in far less mysterious and borderline pretentious words, a violet streetlight seeks work that is sincere and deeply cared for by the hand that made it. that is all that really matters.
i cannot wait to see your creations.
for those drawn to liminality, the offbeat, the unseen, and the extraordinary, this space is for you.
